RINGGOLD, Va. – Units from Ringgold were dispatched about 4:30 Thursday morning after receiving reports of a fire at the First Piedmont Landfill off the South Boston Road.

Units from Blairs and Keeling also assisted and had the fire knocked down in less than an hour.

Reports from the scene indicate that the fire was confined to a small area of the landfill, about an acre. Bulldozers were requested as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

The landfill has been the site of several recent fires, including one that blackened several acres earlier in the summer.

The landfill is located in the 1200 block of Clarks Mill Road.
