ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. – A man who led police on a high speed chase from North Carolina into Virginia is being held in the Henry County Jail.
The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office has charged 30-year-old James Leon Murray Jr. with felonious restraint and felony fleeing to elude arrest.
The chase started just before 8:00 Thursday night in Rockingham County when sheriff’s deputies tried to stop a vehicle on N.C. 87 north of Eden that was being operated in a reckless manner. The driver refused to pull over and his passenger was seriously injured after jumping from the moving vehicle. The driver fled into Virginia, where Henry County sheriff’s deputies joined in the pursuit.
The chase ended at the intersection of Morehead Avenue and Old Leaksville Road in Ridgeway after the driver wrecked.
Investigators say Murray ran but was caught close to the crash scene. Murray is being held in the Henry County Detention Center.
