DANVILLE, Va. – Investigators have ruled a fire destroyed a home in the 1,400 block of North Main Street as an arson.
Danville firefighters responded to 1422 N. Main St. about 7:15 Monday morning and found the frame house fully ablaze. Heavy flames were showing from the front of the home; the only occupant was able to get out through a back door and was not injured.
The fire started on the front porch and had extended into the front rooms of the house as well as the attic. The fire was controlled in approximately 15 minutes but crews remained on the scene throughout the morning to douse hot spots. Firefighters remained on scene for two-and-a-half hours.
Several blocks of North Main were blocked as firefighters worked to bring the fire under control.
The Danville Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the fire and determined the cause to be arson. According to a news release from the department, the fire “appears to be an isolated incident.” An investigation is continuing.
