DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Public Library and Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed to the public beginning Monday, March 16, through Friday, March 27. Parks and Recreation programs during this period are canceled.

The decision to close these facilities and cancel programs was made to limit public gatherings in response to concerns about the spread of the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19. The time period is consistent with Governor Ralph Northam’s order today that all K-12 schools in Virginia be closed. Schools will close from Monday, March 16, through Friday, March 27, at a minimum.

No major recreation events are scheduled in Danville for the next two weeks.

Public Library fees and fines will be delayed until the library reopens. Customers may use the dropbox for returning books.

The City Council’s meeting will be held Tuesday, March 17, as scheduled.  Citizens who are involved with business items on the agenda and citizens who wish to speak on non-agenda topics during the open communications period can attend. Other citizens are encouraged to watch the proceedings on River City TV, which airs all business sessions on its cable channel and Facebook page.
