FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – An arrest has been made in a weekend homicide in Franklin County.

Sheriff’s deputies were contacted about the fatal shooting by a 911 call around 3:30 Sunday afternoon. Deputies and Virginia State Police responded the 10,000 block of Virgil Goode Highway in Rocky Mount and found a man dead in his home.

The victim was identified as 59-year-old Denny Smith of Rocky Mount. He was pronounced dead of a gunshot wound.

55-year-old Gregory Kendrick of Rocky Mount was arrested on scene and charged with second degree murder. He is being held at the Franklin County Jail with no bond.
