DANVILLE, Va. – The Pittsylvania County Jail has banned outside visitors from the facility to limit the risk of the coronavirus. Programs that have civilian lead instruction are suspended as well. The sheriff is exploring talks with their telephone vendor to allow added time for prisoner calls without any extra fees. Danville Sheriff Mike Mondul implemented similar restrictions over the weekend.
Sovah Health is limiting visitation at its hospitals in Danville and Martinsville to one visitor over 16 per patient. Entry has been limited to two points: the emergency department and the main entrance. Sovah has also begun screening individuals based on potential respiratory symptoms and travel history.
Carilion Clinic is suspending all non-essential surgeries and procedures this week to help protect patients and staff from exposure to the coronavirus. The new policy takes effect Wednesday but is subject to change at any time. Patients with a scheduled surgery or procedure should contact their provider to determine the best approach moving forward. Last week, Carilion limited visitors to its hospitals and stopped allowing people under the age of 18 from visiting patients.
The Danville Family YMCA has closed its doors for two weeks in response to the coronavirus outbreak. Under recommendation of YMCA of the USA, the local organization has decided to close, effective Monday at noon, through at least March 29, 2020.
