DANVILLE, Va. – Danville Police are modifying their response to some calls in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

In a news release Thursday, the city of Danville said that — effective immediately — some of the department’s regular services will change to follow public health recommendations to limit close contact with others whenever possible.

Police will give callers the option to file a report by phone for certain non-emergency, non-violent or non-criminal calls that have already happened instead of an in-person response from an officer.

The department’s subsequent investigation and follow-up procedures will not change.

Danville Police officers will continue to respond to all emergency calls for service according to standard procedures.

Officers have also been encouraged to practice social distancing and may ask individuals to step outside at times when they are talking with individuals. These slight changes to department procedures will minimize the risk of the officers spreading germs to others and help keep the Danville community members and officers healthy.
