FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – A teenager died in a crash in Franklin County Thursday night.

Virginia State Police say the accident happened about 10:15 p.m. on Rt. 220 Business, just south of the 220 bypass in Franklin County.

Investigators say a 1989 Ford was headed north on Route 220 Business when the car ran off the left side of the roadway, struck a guardrail, then hit a tree.

Police say the Ford was driven by 21-year-old Elijah Derrick Rorrer of Salem. Rorrer survived the crash but suffered life-threatening injuries. He is undergoing treatment at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. His passenger, 16-year-old Destiny Hodges of Rocky Mount, was also wearing her seat belt but died at the scene.

The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team was called to assist with the investigation.
