(Danville, VA) – An emergency session of Danville Public School Board on Thursday was called to accept the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Stanley B. Jones.  A veteran Superintendent who had worked in the King and Queen County School system joined Danville Public Schools in 2015.

Jones made career and technical education a major focus of the school system’s forward momentum since he took over the leadership position.  He spoke with leaders at the state level to work on accreditation benchmarks based around more than just testing scores.

School Board Chair Mrs. Terri Hall stated after the announcement, “I want to thank Dr. Jones for his dedication and hard work for the students, staff, and community of Danville Public Schools.”

Dr. Jones said during the meeting, “It has been my privilege and pleasure to serve as Superintendent.  We have excellent staff and great students. I will miss working with them every day. But the time has come for me to pursue other challenges, so it is with reluctance but great anticipation that I extend this resignation.”

The School Board now begins the arduous task of finding a replacement in what will be a very different approach to the 2020-2021 school year with the effects of COVID-19 still looming.  They will be seeking input from the community and staff as the recruitment process begins.  Jones’ last day will be June 30, 2020. An acting Superintendent will be named at a later date.
