DANVILLE, Va. – Danville’s new economic development director is no stranger to the city. Corrie Teague Bobe has served as director on an interim basis since Telly Tucker left in January to accept a similar position in Arlington County.

Bobe has worked in economic development locally for more than a decade and will now have charge over the city’s efforts to attract and retain businesses, while continuing the revitalization effort along the River District.

Bobe heads a staff of four full-time employees and one economic development consultant.

“Corrie has done an excellent job leading the department for the past several months,” City Manager Ken Larking said. “She has worked tirelessly on behalf of our community for nearly 11 years, and I am thrilled that she will be directing our economic development effort for, hopefully, many years to come.”

Larking said Bobe was selected following a highly competitive national search.

Mayor Alonzo Jones applauded Bobe’s selection, saying, “The City Council has worked with Corrie for a number of years, and we have great confidence in her. Without a doubt, Corrie is the right person to lead our incredible economic development team and maintain the spirit of collaboration in our region.”

Neal Morris, chairman of the Industrial Development Authority of Danville, agreed.

“The city manager made an excellent choice,” Morris said. “Corrie has a full understanding of all aspects of economic development and has continued working with potential companies while serving as interim director. I feel confident she will continue to work diligently to ensure Danville remains competitive in its efforts to bring new companies to the area, increasing jobs, good pay and improving the quality of life for our citizens.”
