DANVILLE, Va. – Motorists traveling from Memorial to Riverside Drive were forced to find an alternate route Tuesday after a water main break left the road impassable at the south end of Union Street Bridge.

The break was isolated and service restored but water damaged the asphalt, forcing public works crews to close the span Tuesday evening.

The Union Street Bridge will remain closed until repairs can be made to the damaged asphalt.
