DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville School Board is considering a revised reopening plan that would have students learning virtually during the first nine weeks of the school calendar.

There would be no in-person instruction during the first nine weeks. The superintendent would make a recommendation after the first six weeks about instruction during the second quarter.

Pre-school students, those with disabilities and English language learners will have the option of choosing in-person classroom instruction.

Danville is the latest school system to consider moving to a virtual classroom as students prepare for the fall semester. Martinsville took similar action earlier this month.

The plan differs significantly from a proposal presented last week. That plan called for a combination of face-to-face learning and virtual instruction. The hybrid proposal could still be adopted during the second nine weeks.
