DANVILLE, Va. – Danville Police have released more information about the deaths of two babies, reportedly at the hands of their fathers. Investigators believe one was strangled while the other was shaken to death.
The latest arrest was announced Monday. 22-year-old Antoine Jefferson is charged with homicide and child abuse in the death of his three-month-old son. Police said that the child’s injuries were consistent with having been shaken.
The investigation started on Aug. 9 when the parents drove the infant to Sovah Health- Danville because he was unresponsive.
Family members found the child in the house unresponsive, called 911 and EMS personnel transported the infant to the hospital. The boy was then transferred to Duke University Medical Center, where he died on August 12.
The arrest comes just days after police charged another 22-year-old, Kanyon Wade Gutherie, with homicide and child abuse in the death of his 8-month-old son.
Investigators had been looking into the case since June and say the child’s injuries were consistent with strangulation.
Both men are Danville residents and are set to make their initial court appearances Thursday in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
