DANVILLE, Va. – Utility disconnections for residential and commercial customers with delinquent accounts will be postponed until Sept. 14.
The two-week extension will allow customers more time to contact the collections office — 434-799-5125 — to work out payment arrangements.
Last week, the city had announced disconnections would resume on Sept. 1.
Those disconnections were placed on hold in March due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
The extension brings the city in line with the State Corporation Commission, which has postponed cutoffs until Sept. 16.
The city estimates that overdue utility payments total about $1.2 million. Roughly 2,000 Danville Utilities customers face disconnection Sept. 14, unless payment arrangements are made.
