DANVILLE, Va. – The remnants of Tropical Storm Zeta roared through Danville Thursday afternoon, downing power lines and trees and leaving thousands without power.
Public works crews responded to about 50 calls with trees blocking roadways, including one on 58W which blocked both eastbound lanes. Cambridge Dr. was also closed after high winds felled a large tree.
The Danville Fire Department responded to a call just before 2 p.m. on Oxford Place for a downed tree that caused considerable damage to a home. Crews removed the tree and placed a tarp over the roof.
At the height of the storm, Danville Utilities reported 93 outages affecting 23,282 customers. Crews continue to work to restore service.
Areas affected include Sutherlin, Ringgold, Mount Hermon, Westover, Schoolfield and other areas in Danville.
No injuries have been reported.
