HENRY COUNTY, Va. – A fight at a party in Martinsville left one man dead and another charged with his murder.

Henry County Sheriff’s investigators responded early Sunday to 73 Rose Lane, where they were told that a man had been shot and taken by car to the emergency room of  Sovah Health Martinsville.

23-year-old Jayland Jovan Sandoval Gonzalez of Martinsville suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital.

Investigators say both Gonzalez and 27-year-old Demario Devonte Clark of Martinsville had attended a large party on Rose Lane when the two got into an argument and Gonzalez was shot.

Clark fled the scene but was arrested by police a short time later. Clark is charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is being held with no bond in the Henry County Jail.

Gonzalez’ body was taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
