FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – An elderly Franklin County man is charged with murder in the stabbing death of his wife near Smith Mountain Lake.

Police received a 911 call just after 8 a.m. Thursday about a report of a homicide at a house on Mallard Cove Road in Moneta. Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies responded and found 82-year-old Clara Taylor dead in her bed from apparent stab wounds.

Taylor’s husband, 84-year-old Donald Taylor, was in the house and told investigators that he had fatally stabbed his wife.

Donald Taylor was charged with second-degree murder. He is currently being held in the Franklin County Jail without bond.
