DANVILLE, Va. – Danville Police are investigating their first homicide of the New Year.

Just before 9:00 Sunday night, police were called to the 500 block of Gay Street for a medical emergency.  The initial call indicated  there was an unresponsive person behind the wheel of a Yellow Cab at Gay and Valley Street.

On arrival, officers found a woman dead from an apparent wound. The victim will be identified once the family has been notified.

The woman’s body will be taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for an autopsy.

The investigation is ongoing.

A cash reward of up to $1,000 is available for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the homicide.
