DANVILLE, Va. – A Monday morning fire gutted one unit and damaged 20 others at the Budget Inn Motel.
Danville firefighters were called to 1228 Piney Forest Road just after 8:45 a.m. and found heavy smoke and fire coming from room 110. Firefighters began attacking the flames from outside the building as crews worked to evacuate the rest of the motel rooms.
The fire was knocked down in about 40 minutes and under control at 10:44 am. A portion of Piney Forest was closed as firefighters battled the blaze.
Heat, smoke and water damage were reported throughout and the American Red Cross is assisting the occupants. One person was treated on scene by the Danville Life Saving Crew and released. No other injuries were reported.
The Danville Fire Department responded with five engines, a ladder truck, two command units, two safety officers and two fire marshals. 28 firefighters were on the scene for more than 3 hours.
The fire marshal has yet to determine a cause.
