HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. – A man was struck and killed after he stepped into oncoming traffic in Halifax County.

Virginia State Police say 58-year-old David N. Throckmorton of Halifax died Friday at the scene of the accident. Investigators say Throckmorton was hit by the driver of a 2007 Honda Accord after stepping into the travel lane.

Crews responded shortly after 6:30 a.m. Friday to the crash in the 400 block of South Main Street in the town of Halifax.

The trooper who investigated said that the driver of the Honda was unable to avoid hitting him and no charges were filed. The driver was not injured in the crash, which remains under investigation.
