RINGGOLD, Va. – Firefighters from Ringgold kept a huge garage fire from spreading to a nearby home.
Fire Chief Mike Neal says they responded shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday to 412 Ringgold Road, where crews found a four-bay garage in flames. While they arrived within five minutes of the initial call, the garage was fully involved.
Firefighters kept the flames from spreading to the home, which suffered damage to the vinyl siding. Several out buildings were saved.
Volunteers from four departments spent two-and-a-half hours battling the blaze. Two suffered minor injuries when an exterior wall collapsed, but Neal says both were treated on the scene and continued battling the blaze. High winds and lingering snow made their job more difficult.
The cause is still under investigation but Neal said the woman who lives at the address said a van pulled into the garage about ten minutes before she heard a loud explosion.
Power to the home was cut and the occupant is being assisted by the Red Cross.
