DANVILLE, Va. -The National Weather Service is predicting several bands of wintry weather through the weekend.

A Winter Storm Watch begins for the Danville area at 7 p.m. Thursday and extends through Friday evening.

The NWS is calling for a mixture of rain and freezing rain starting early Friday morning before changing to cold rain showers after 9 a.m. Friday. A combination of rain, freezing rain and sleet is possible Friday night, again changing to rain Saturday morning. A rain and snow mixture is possible Saturday night before sunny skies return on Sunday.

Conditions shouldn’t be as severe on the Southside. Mostly wet roads are expected, however, there could be some icy spots late Thursday night into Friday morning.
