FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – An 84-year-old man charged with murdering his wife has died.

Franklin County authorities confirm that Donald Taylor died on Monday, February 8 while being released on a medical furlough from the Franklin County Jail.

Taylor was arrested and charged with the December 17 murder of his wife, Clara Taylor, at the couple’s home in Moneta. The 82-year-old was found dead in her bed of multiple stab wounds.

Investigators found Donald Taylor at the Mallard Cove Road home after he called 911 and told a dispatcher that he had just killed his wife. He was arrested and placed in the Franklin County Jail.

Warrants show that he stabbed his wife with a butcher knife.

The motive in the slaying still isn’t clear.
