DANVILLE, Va. – Mobile vaccination clinics have been pressed into service as Danville aims to ramp up vaccine access and availability.

The mobile clinics – which began making runs on Wednesday — offer the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, which only requires a single dose.

The city also launched a tab on its website letting people know of available vaccine appointments. When there are available appointments at the Danville Mall Vaccination Center or at the mobile clinic, you’ll be able to sign up for a slot the day before.

The addition of the mobile clinic comes as many doses of the vaccine go unused at the mall site. During its first week in operation, the mall site administered 8,476 doses of the vaccine. That number fell to about 4,000 the following week and just 298 doses two days into week three. The clinic is presently receiving 750 doses split between the site and two mobile units.

The mall site is still seeing many walk-in patients who arrive without appointments.
