FERRUM, Va. – A Franklin County woman has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bond.
Shortly before noon Monday, Franklin County authorities received a 911 call for a well-being check for Walter Sigmon and Carol Long at their home in Ferrum.
A deputy responded to their home on Franklin Street and found a 59-year-old Carol Long inside the house. She told the deputy that 62-year-old Walter Sigmon was dead inside the home.
Investigators aren’t saying how Sigmon died but have ruled his death a homicide and have charged Long in his murder. She’s being held in the Franklin County Jail, without bond.
Investigators say this was an isolated incident and that the public is in no danger.
