DANVILLE, Va. – A 77-year-old truck driver had to be cut from the cab of his tractor-trailer Friday morning after the rig overturned. The tractor-trailer was carrying 80,000 pounds of lumber bound for Ridgeway, Virginia. All southbound lanes of US 29 were closed for several hours due to cleanup.
Danville Police were called the the scene at about 6:18 a.m. The driver, John Fielden Clark lost control of his big rig and overturned across the southbound lanes.
After Clark was removed from his truck, he was transferred to the Emergency Room at SOVAH of Danville and later flown to Duke Medical Center for treatment. His condition was not available.
Charges are pending further investigation by Danville Police.
