SOUTH BOSTON, Va. – A 58-year-old South Boston man has surrendered to police and is charged in a fatal stabbing that happened early Saturday morning.

Lionel Russell Barnett turned himself in to authorities and is being held without bond on charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder.

Police were called to the Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital emergency toom shortly after 12:30 a.m. after receiving a report that a patient had arrived with stab wounds.

Wheeler was pronounced dead about three hours later. Ali was transferred to Duke University Center.

According to the sheriff’s department, both were stabbed in the parking lot of the Willow Oaks Apartments, near building 360 in South Boston.

No motive was given.
