CHATHAM, Va. – A former chairman of the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors has died. Dr. Claude Stuart Whitehead Jr. passed away Friday at his home. He was 82.

Whitehead was first elected to the Board of Supervisors of Pittsylvania County in 1972. He remained on the Board for 16 years, serving as Chairman for the final six years. He was also involved in Pittsylvania County’s Economic Development Department and served as an interim County Administrator.

Whitehead grew up of a farm in Pittsylvania County and returned to Chatham in 1964, where he set up his dental practice. A gentleman farmer, Whitehead lived in the same house in which he grew up from 1972 until his death.

Funeral services will be held at Chatham Baptist Church, Chatham, Va. on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at 2 p.m.
