HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police a three-year-old boy died Tuesday in what is believed to have been an accidental shooting.

Shortly before 1 a.m., Halifax police responded to a home in the 5100 block of Halifax Road for a reported shooting.

Deputies arrived to find the child suffering from a single gunshot wound. The boy was transported to Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, where he later died.

A handgun was recovered at the scene.

Investigators say none of the three adults nor an additional juvenile inside the home at the time of the shooting was injured.

At this time, no charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing.
