DANVILLE, Va. – Two men who became stranded on the Dan River Saturday night were brought safely to shore after one fell into the water.

The Danville Lifesaving Crew and Danville Fire Department responded about 8:20 p.m. after receiving a call that two boaters had fallen into the river.

Two men were on the river when their small boat became wedged sideways on some rocks near the wastewater treatment plant. The boat flipped and one of the men ended up in the river.
Two passing kayakers were able to assist the pair. One jumped in the river to rescue the man in the water. Emergency crews assisted in bringing the two men to Angler’s Park. Neither was injured.
Neither of the two wished to be identified but thanked the man and woman who  helped them to safety, along with the first responders who assisted after their rescue.
