ROANOKE, Va. – Roanoke EMS crews rescued five people from Thursday night after their vehicles were overtaken by rising water.
Swift water rescue teams pulled both drivers and their passengers to safety after two cars became stranded. There were no reports of injuries.
Roanoke Fire-EMS reported that many more cars were left stranded in the flood waters but the occupants were able to walk or swim to safety.
Up to three inches of rain fell over the city Thursday night and storm drains in downtown Roanoke were not able to accommodate the overflow. That caused water to pool and streets to flood. The water has since receded.
