(Danville, Va.) – While the early morning temperature remains above freezing, the National Weather Service is still calling for a wintry mix of precipitation in the Danville area Monday.

Blacksburg meteorologist Jack Ruckman says this has been an “extremely difficult” storm to forecast. The NWS scaled back its earlier prediction of several inches of snow in Danville.

Ruckman says the area can now “expect at least a wintry mix” Monday, with an accumulation of a half-inch or less expected locally.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Danville through midnight.

Ruckman says it is possible that this will be “entirely a rain event in Danville,” but he expects our area will receive some mixed precipitation before the system moves out of Southside Virginia later tonight.

He said heavier accumulations are expected to the west and north of Danville.
