(Danville, Va.) — National Weather Service meteorologist Jack Ruckman says the storm arrived later than expected and changed quickly from sleet to snow. A one-to-three inch accumulation is expected locally, with heavier accumulations in Southwest Virginia.
Pittsylvania County Emergency Services Director Jim Davis says he has received no calls involving weather-related accidents this morning. But he cautions that conditions could change tonight as the temperature falls below freezing.
The city of Danville’s Public Works Department put salt on bridges and overpasses Monday morning. Plows and salt and sand trucks are ready to go as needed and crews will be on standby overnight. They will be deployed when one inch of snow or ice has accumulated on the streets. The main thoroughfares will be cleared first.
