DANVILLE, Va. – Services of remembrance will be held across the state and the nation Saturday, as the United States marks the 20th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks in 2001.
Locally, the Danville Fire Department will hold a 20th anniversary commemoration for 9/11 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lynn Street headquarters/station. Fire Capt. Ken Jones will be speaking on his duties as he traveled to New York City to assist the New York Fire Department on that tragic day. Danville City Manager Ken Larking is also scheduled to deliver the closing remarks.
Across Virginia, Gov. Ralph Northam has ordered that the U.S. flag and the Virginia state flag be flown at half-staff in honor of of those who lost their lives at the Pentagon, the World Trade Center and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The flags will be lowered at sunrise on Saturday, Sept. 11 and remain at half-staff until sunset.
