HENRY COUNTY, Va. – Three men robbed a Henry County convenience store early Wednesday morning, then fled before crashing a getaway car stolen from Danville.
The Fas Mart on the A. L. Philpott Highway in Martinsville was robbed just before 1 a.m. Police say a man entered the store, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money.
The robber then fled the scene after getting an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect is Black and was wearing a black hoodie with a yellow and white design, and blue latex gloves. His face was covered by a mask.
Within minutes, a state trooper spotted the vehicle traveling east on A.L. Philpot Highway at a high rate of speed. The trooper attempted to stop the driver, but the vehicle continued on and a high speed pursuit began.
During the chase, the driver lost control and crashed at the intersection of Whispering Pines and Sugar Tree Church Road in Pittsylvania County.
Three men jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot.
The vehicle, a 2006 Jeep Commander, was was stolen from Danville last Friday. Investigators say evidence from the convenience store hold-up was found inside the vehicle.
