DANVILLE, Va. – We’re learning more about that house fire on Melrose Ave.
As we reported Wednesday, crews went to 823 Melrose just shortly after 5:30 and found flames coming from a window. Firefighters entered the small home through the front door and found heavy fire in the first room.
The flames were knocked down quickly with a hand line but it took several hours to douse smaller fires because of the piles of possessions stacked three feet high in what investigators describe as a “hoarder home.” The fire had spread to the contents, which had to be removed by hand to find hidden hot spots. Firefighters were still sifting through the debris four hours later.
The house was unoccupied at the time and there were no injuries.
A cause has not been determined.
