(Danville, Va.) – 28-year-old Travis Deshae Tarpley of Danville has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for murder.
Tarpley was convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death last March of 49-year-old Lyndon Lee Johnson.
Danville Police responded to a report of a shooting at a home of Myrtle Avenue. They found Johnson dead of a bullet wound to the heart. Investigators say Tarpley went to pick up his child from his mother’s home, saw Johnson and got into an argument. During the course of a fight, Tarpley pulled a gun and shot Johnson.
Tarpley fled and was arrested in Greensboro, North Carolina.
He was sentenced in Danville Circuit Court after pleading guilty to murder and firearms charges. Tarpley was also convicted of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
