DANVILLE, Va. – There is now a vacancy on the Danville School Board.
Longtime school board member Renee Hughes tendered her resignation at Thursday’s meeting. Her resignation is effective Nov. 30.
The board accepted her resignation and is distributing applications to fill the open seat until an election is held.
“It is with great sadness that I must tender my resignation from the school board,” Hughes said in a statement. “Due to increased responsibilities in other areas of my life, I am no longer able to devote the time and energy that is required to be a good board member. I offer my sincere thanks to the City Council for their support for education and the citizens of Danville for their confidence in me as I have served on the board.”
Hughes has served on the school board since January 2003. Her current term began in July 2020.
Danville Public Schools will be accepting applications for an interim board member.
