DANVILLE, Va. – Two North Carolina men are behind bars after assaulting a Danville Police car and crashing into two cars Friday afternoon.

It started about 2 pm at the WalMart Supercenter on Mt. Cross Road. That’s when a Danville Police officer attempted to question the pair about a shopliftingnincident at the store.

Officer S.C. Parker approached the two male suspects near the store exit; however, the two refused to cooperate with the officer’s request. The incident continued into the parking lot where police attempted to arrest the pair.

One of the suspects, 24-year-old Parker Barron Wright, of Ruffin, North Carolina, violently resisted arrest. He reportedly assaulted Officer Parker, who suffered a bloodied face in the altercation.

Wright jumped into a “getaway vehicle” where he was joined by the second individual,  21-year-old Billings Carpenter Miner, of Semora, North Carolina. Miner drove from the scene. He struck another car in the parking lot before heading south onto Mt. Cross.

Miner traveled south on Mount Cross Road. At the intersection of Piedmont Drive and Executive Drive, they hit another vehicle and were stalled.

Responding officers spotted the crash and saw the pair running from the scene. Both were quickly apprehended.

Miner was injured in the crash and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Officer Parker suffered “minor bleeding to the face” and was treated at the scene by a nurse who witnessed the melee.
