(Collinsville, Va.) — Benjamin Rios Tovar has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for a Henry County murder conviction.
The Martinsville Bulletin reports that Tovar received 40 years for a second-degree murder conviction, with ten years suspended.
23-year-old Sandesh Rajendra Dhavan of India was in Henry County for a work-study internship program from Texas when he was stabbed to death on July 7, 2015.
He was in Henry County to work assessing the signal of cell phone towers. Tovar was his driver.
An autopsy showed Dhavan suffered 13 stabs wounds and his throat was cut. His body was found in a room at the Collinsville Knights Inn. Tovar then drove back to Texas.
The judge rejected an insanity plea but conceded that Tovar suffers from serious mental problems.
