(Halifax County, Va.) – A man who forced his way into a Halifax County home early Wednesday has been charged with assault and battery of a law enforcement officer, breaking and entering with the intent to commit a felony, and destruction of property.
Kaye Tanner and her four children were asleep in their Clover home when investigators say that Diante Womack forced his way in through a window.
Tanner heard some noise, went to investigate and came face-to-face with the intruder. Womack, who was armed with a knife, told her his car had broken down and he just wanted a warm place to stay.
Deputies were called and found Womack sitting on the sofa. They say he was intoxicated and that his car was discovered nearby.
He is being held without bond.
