HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. – Icy road conditions contributed to a Monday morning wreck in Halifax County.
Virginia State Police say weather was a factor in the accident, which happened on U.S. 58 near the area commonly known as “Leggett’s Bottom.”
Police say the crash occurred at 4:40 a.m. in the 17,000 block of Philpott Rd/Route 58.
47-year-old Braxton L. Brooks of Cumberland, Va. was driving a Mercury Grand Marquis on Route 58 when he came across icy roads. Brooks’ vehicle ran off the left side of the road and into the median where it hit a tree.
Ringgold Fire and Rescue responded just before 5 a.m. Fire Chief Mike Neal said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
