MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Martinsville Police now say a man whose body was found in a ditch Sunday night may not have been murdered. That’s because a preliminary autopsy revealed no trauma or wounds to the body.

The body was found by a passerby in a ditch along Smith Lake Road near Village Street between 7:30 and 8:30 Sunday night.

Martinsville Police Chief Eddie Cassady said that the man has yet to be identified. Cassady said initially that the body had been in the drainage ditch for “a while.”

The investigation is continuing.
