DANVILLE, Va. – Danville city and school leaders broke ground Wednesday for the first of many school upgrades made possible by passage of a November bond referendum.
The ceremony at John M. Langston Focus School marks the beginning of a transition for the storied campus, which will soon become home to Galileo Magnet High School and the Danville Public Schools’ main offices. STEM instruction will also be offered through the revamped high school.
Moving the school system’s administrative offices from lower Main Street onto school property will save the city about $238,000 a year in rent.
Another groundbreaking will be held Tuesday at George Washington High School as work begins on a new track on the football field.
