Soon, you might be able to walk the streets and mingle downtown in the River District with a beer or cocktail in your hand. When they meed on April 5th, Danville City Council plans to vote on whether or not to have a designated outdoor refreshment area in a 159-acre area in the River District, where visitors would be able to purchase alcoholic beverages at an establishment and then move freely about on foot. The thinking behind the idea is that it would attract more tourists and enhance the appeal of the River District. If it passes, visitors would be allowed to drink alcoholic beverages on outdoor seating, public sidewalks, public plazas and in private businesses without ABC licenses.
