The National Weather Service says it was an EF-2 tornado that tore through part of Carroll County on Wednesday night, leaving behind a trail of damage. The federal agency says the tornado touched down just outside of Hillsville, and the resulting damage left two families displaced, damaged other homes, led to power outages, and an elementary school operating as a shelter. They say the tornado had maximum winds estimated around 122 miles per hour and it’s path lasted for just shy of 2 miles. It was 125 yards wide.
