Monday afternoon AEROFARMS held a ribbon cutting ceremony for their new Danville location. The new facility is the world’s largest aeroponic smart farm and has already brought over 80 new jobs to the area with the expectation that it will eventually provide 158 jobs.
The ceremony featured remarks from AEROFARMS CEO and Co-Founder David Rosenberg as well as CMO and Co-Founder Marc Oshima.
“Want to certainly thank the people of Danville the community here has really opened their arms and accepted us,” said Rosenberg, “we accept them we embrace them and we’re so thankful. It’s been easy, the quality of people we have, they’re hard working, they understand manufacturing…and it’s been a real treat to work with and it’s going to be a start of a very long relationship with the community of Danville, the county, the state, and the neighboring areas.”
Many area leaders were also in attendance including Danville Mayor Alonzo Jones and U.S. Representative Bob Good.
“When AEROFARMS sent out the invitation for today’s event it was so fitting that they included phrases such as ‘agriculture elevated’ and ‘new heights’,” said Jones, “those words so aptly describe this company and the production that will be taking place inside this facility. I am so proud and happy that AEROFARMS put its faith and trust in our community and built this cutting edge facility right here in Danville and Pittsylvania County.”
The indoor vertical farm is 140,000 square feet and is expected to help the company their increased consumer demand. The flavor of greens that AEROFARMS produces range in types of flavors from sweet to hot to floral. Some of the flavors now available for purchase include baby kale, micro wasabi mustard, and micro spicy mix.
