During the Danville City Council meeting Tuesday night, multiple members of the council discussed their recent experience at the Virginia Municipal League Annual Conference in Richmond. Councilman Lee Vogler brought back two ideas to the council that he thinks could help small businesses and help residents with inflation.
“I would like council to consider eliminating the $50 license fee for businesses with revenue under $100,000,” said Vogler, “the other thing that was discussed is to provide a tax rebate to our citizens, but rather than have citizens pay the bill and then get the rebate after the fact if we act quickly on this we should be able to provide what amounts to an instant tax rebate that would actually show up on the bill that goes out this next time around.”
Mayor Alonzo Jones supported Vogler’s ideas and asked that they discuss them further at an upcoming meeting in November.
