Pittsylvania County voters passed a 1% sales tax increase to fund school renovations last night. With 31 of 32 precincts having reported 51.97% of voters yes for the sales tax increase.

The vote for the sales tax had 930 more votes than those that opposed it. The tax failed by just 14 votes in 2021.

The increase will raise around $3.8 million a year during the next 19 years and will be used for renovations to county schools. The sales tax increase will not affect groceries.

The Mayor for the Town of Chatham race has been tight so far with Alisa Davis leading Irvin Perry by just 22 votes with four of five precincts counted. For Chatham Town Council Teresa Easley, Janet Bishop, and William Black are in control with four of the five precincts having reported.

According to the Pittsylvania County Board of Elections, the post election ballot totals will be completed on Monday.
