On Tuesday in Pittsylvania County Circuit Court, Montel Oakley of Hurt was sentenced to 68 years and four months in prison for the murder. Oakley killed his friend Corey Andrew Moon, 44 on July 11, 2021 when he shot him with an AK-47, according to the Chatham Star-Tribune.

The two men had been drinking when an argument began over music CDs. The incident occurred at 2957 Pocket Road in Hurt.

Oakley was convicted and sentenced for first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and use of a firearm by a convicted felon.
